Periodismo y poder en Durango

Abstract

This article covers the history of the region"s journalism and, through it, the culture of a period spanning from 1822, when the first printing press arrived in Durango, until the Mexican Revolution, a time that saw the establishment of constitutional articles dealing with press freedoms that would mark the start of the contemporary period. The author"s analysis of these newspapers reveals a regional, noncommercial press with ample leeway for transmitting convictions invariably motivated by passions and personal or group interests, an age of doctrinaire and rhetorical journalism characterized by a florid linguistic style that is, in and of itself, a reflection of the culture of the time.Este artículo recorre la historia del periodismo regional y, a través de él, la cultura de una época que va desde 1822, año en que la imprenta llega a Durango, hasta la Revolución mexicana, periodo en que se establecen artículos constitucionales sobre la libertad de prensa que marcarán el cambio hacia el periodo actual. Por las características de su contenido, el análisis que el autor hace de este tipo de diarios permite acercarse a una prensa regional, no comercial, con amplio margen para transmitir convicciones siempre motivadas por la pasión y los intereses personales o de grupos, a una época de periodismo doctrinario y retórico caracterizado por la floritura lingüística que fuera, por sí mismo, reflejo de la cultura de una época.
