The National Newspaper Library of México and its founding during Mexican Revolution

Abstract

The Newspapers and Magazines Department was established in the choir of the former convent of San Agustín, inside the National Library, in 1912. Around that time, Mexican Revolution was developing; consequently this institution was immersed in it, and even had a direct impact in its course when President Francisco I. Madero appointed Rogelio Fernandez Güell as head of the institution. Moreover, during this historical phase, periodicals played a highly significant role in the turn of the events that took place between 1911 and1913.La fundación del Departamento de Periódicos y Revistas en el coro del ex convento de San Agustín, edificio que albergaba a la Biblioteca Nacional, tuvo lugar en 1912, año en que México se hallaba en pleno proceso revolucionario, cuando la institución también estuvo inmersa y cuyos sucesos la afectaron directamente, inclusive en el nombramiento que Francisco I. Madero hizo de Rogelio Fernández Güell como director de la institución. Además, las publicaciones periódicas durante esa etapa jugaron un papel de gran trascendencia en el desarrollo de los hechos que tuvieron lugar durante los años de 1911 a 1913
