The United States and the Mexican War of Independence

Abstract

Aware of the sympathy with which the United States of America saw the independence of the Spanish colonies in America, several leaders of the Mexican independent movement, such as Hidalgo, Morelos and Allende, sought help from the powerful neighbor of the North asking for economic resources and warfare in order to continue the campaign that would free them from the Spanish yoke. However, states the author , there were individuals that "because of an adventurous spirit or profit motive or for true idealism", were involved in the events of this history. Among the first, we have authentic pirates that, with the excuse of joining the independent cause, would go under the insurgent flag as well as under the North American to commit their outrages. Among the latter, there were several officers and soldiers from the North American army that fought and died next to Francisco Javier Mina, in order to achieve the Mexican independence.Sabedores de la simpatía con que los Estados Unidos de América veían la independencia de las colonias españolas de América, diversos caudillos del movimiento independiente de México, como Hidalgo, Morelos y Allende, buscaron la ayuda del poderoso vecino del Norte solicitándole recursos económicos y armamento para continuar la campaña que los liberara del yugo español. No obstante nos dice el autor , hubo individuos que "por espíritu de aventura o de lucro o por verdadero idealismo", se vieron involucrados en los hechos de esta historia. Entre los primeros, tenemos a auténticos piratas que, con el pretexto de unirse a la causa independiente, lo mismo navegaban bajo la bandera insurgente que con bandera norteamericana para realizar sus tropelías. Entre los segundos, hubo varios oficiales y soldados del ejército norteamericano que lucharon y murieron al lado de Francisco Javier Mina, por lograr la independencia de México.
