The Guillermo Prieto’s unpublished. “San Lunes de Fidel” and the “Cuchicheo Semanario” in La Colonia Española (january-may 1879)

Abstract

Con la promesa de aportar en un futuro próximo una edición anotada de los inéditos de los “San Lunes de Fidel” y el “Cuchicheo Semanario” de Guillermo Prieto, la autora nos entrega en este artículo una interesante descripción sobre el hallazgo de dichas publicaciones en el periódico La Colonia Española, dirigido por el español Adolfo Llanos, donde nos muestra la vena de poeta popular y creador de cuadros y costumbres de Fidel. En estas secciones, Prieto narra, con un tono festivo e irónico, diversos acontecimientos políticos, sociales y religiosos de su tiempo. La ciudad, su gente, sus usos y costumbres, consejas y leyendas; sus estanquillos, teatros, fiestas y sus chismes: cada lunes la gente buscaba a Fidel para leer sobre las glorias y miserias de la capital.Along with the promise to provide in the near future an annotated edition of the still unpublished Guillermo Pietro’s “San Lunes de Fidel” and the “Cuchicheo Semanario”, the author of this article delivers an interesting description about the finding of these publications on the newspaper La Colonia Española. A newspaper directed by the Spaniard Adolfo Llanos, in which he shows his skills to popular poetry and to create paintings and customs of Fidel. On these sections, Prieto narrates in a festive and ironic style, the various political, social and religious events of his time. The city, its people, customs and traditions, legends, theaters, parties and gossip: every Monday, people would look for Fidel to read the glories and miseries of the Capital.
